How GivingMarket works today, in plain language.

Getting started

What the closed beta includes

You can browse and search listings, save searches and favourites, follow sellers, message sellers about a listing, publish your own listings, apply as a business seller and leave reviews after a real conversation. Payments, checkout, shipping and escrow are not part of the beta. Agree on payment and handover directly with the other person, in the same way you would for any in-person sale.

Using your invitation code

Create an account first, then open the beta access page and enter the code exactly as you received it. Codes can expire, can be limited to the email address they were sent to, and can be withdrawn. If your code is refused, ask the person who invited you for a new one.

Buying

Searching and filtering

Search by words, then narrow by category, city, distance, price range and condition. Save a search to find it again later; saved searches keep your filters exactly as you left them.

Contacting a seller

Open a listing and start a conversation from it. Every conversation is tied to one listing, so both sides always know what is being discussed. Keep the conversation on the marketplace — it is the record we can act on if something goes wrong.

Selling

Publishing a listing

Give a clear title, an honest description, the real condition, a price and a location, and add photos of the actual item. Listings without photos or with very short descriptions get far less interest and may be reviewed by our team.

How reviews work

A review can only be written by someone who had a real conversation with the seller about a listing, once per interaction. Sellers can reply publicly once. Reviews can be reported and removed if they break the rules.

Business sellers

Applying as a business seller

Submit your business details for review. Our team approves, asks for changes or declines with a reason. Approved businesses get a storefront page and business tools. Verification during the beta is manual and can take a few days.

Safety

Reporting a listing, message or user

Use the report action on the listing, conversation or review. Reports go to a moderation queue with an audit trail; you can also block a user so they can no longer contact you.

Your account

Notifications and email

Choose which alerts you receive and on which channel in your notification settings. Security and account notices are always sent. Outgoing email is not yet connected during the beta, so in-app alerts are the reliable channel.

Your data and closing your account

You can download a copy of your account data at any time from your privacy settings, and request that your account be closed. Closing stops new listings and messages; conversations already held with other people are kept as a record.
